DGT rules in English
Speed limits in Spain explained in English
These rules turn speed and distance questions into stopping space and reaction time.
Speed questions are often visibility questions
Safe speed depends on what you can see and stop within — not just the posted limit.
Watch for: The question links speed to visibility, bends, weather, night, or road conditions.
Following distance buys reaction time
Leave enough space behind the vehicle ahead to react, brake, and stop safely.
Watch for: The question mentions safety distance, following distance, or the car ahead stopping.
Low grip means bigger margins
On wet, icy, or loose surfaces, you need more space and gentler steering and braking.
Watch for: The question mentions wet road, ice, snow, gravel, oil, aquaplaning, or tyre grip.
Stopping distance has two parts
Stopping distance is reaction distance (before braking) plus braking distance (after braking begins).
Watch for: The question asks about reaction time, braking distance, or total stopping distance.
Speed limits are ceilings, not targets
Speed limits are the maximum allowed — conditions often mean you should go slower.
Watch for: The question asks whether to drive at the maximum in traffic, bad weather, or near crossings.
